Full Address: 52 Upton Towans, Hayle, Cornwall, TR27 5BL - the site map is above.
Twice As Nice Chalets are actually located at the rear of Atlantic Coast Holiday Park so that’s the entrance you’re looking out for from the main road, a big sign saying ‘Atlantic Coast Holiday Park’.
When you first turn into Atlantic Coast Holiday Park, you will see that the road splits off three ways as you drive past the white reception / shop. (NB that’s the reception for Atlantic Coast Holiday Park, so Twice As Nice Chalets holidaymakers don’t need to stop there. You can however visit the shop to make daily purchases should you wish to do so).
To get to your chalet, you need to take the middle road as you go past the shop.
When the road forks again, take the left turn and then keep going until you come to a permanent Chalet (like a little house) on the left-side corner in front of you.
Drive straight past that onto the grass and you’re now alongside the chalets - see the picture below, based on the picture you either need to turn left for the four chalets at the front or go straight ahead to one of the first three chalets you can see.
As you drive up to the chalets you’ll see the names and numbers (green box illustrates on picture above) next to the doors (if you go back to the first picture though, you’ll see we’ve added the numbers onto the roofs for you so you can plan exactly which chalet to pull up in front of!).
Enter the code we give you into the box at the side of the door to find your key, and hey presto you’re home!!
Enjoy your holiday!!
What Do I Need To Bring To My Chalet?
Overall:-
- Pound coins for the electric meter (located in the tall store cupboard in your Chalet) - the average amount used is £10 for the week, and remember you can always get change while you’re out and about
- Pound coins for the laundrette (located on the small caravan park next door)
If you’re bringing your dog/dogs:-
- Remember to book your dog(s) in with us, so we can make sure to allocate extra cleaning time to your chalet once you leave. Dogs carry a surcharge of just £30 each, so it won’t break the bank to bring your four-legged friend along
- Bring your own poo bags, and a bin-bag (or small bin) to store the used poo bags outside the chalet (bins can be emptied in the bin/recycling centre at the centre of the chalet area)
- Crate (if you use one), dog bed, throws, lead - and of course your dogs favourite toys!
Room-by-room in the Chalet, what you need to bring. Let’s look at what you’ll need to pack - (and what’s already provided is listed in brackets for you, for ease of reference).
Kitchen:-
- Food and Drink
- Salt, Pepper, Sauces - general condiments - and herbs / spices for cooking
- Washing up liquid, dishcloths and tea towels; bin liners / bags
- (Everything else - pots, pans, cutlery, mugs and glasses - is provided for you)
Living Room:-
- (Everything is provided, including comfy sofas and even blankets to sit under!)
- (There’s lamps, a TV, and spare powerpoints for you to charge your phone / tablet too)
Bathroom:-
- Towels, washcloths, soap, shower gels, shampoo, conditioner etc
- Toilet Rolls, we provide 1 just in case!
- Don’t forget your toothbrush and toothpaste - and your hairbrush!
Bedroom:-
- Sheets, Quilt Covers and Pillowcases
- (Pillows and Quilts all provided)
- (There’s lamps, a TV, and spare powerpoints for you to charge your phone / tablet too)

A Dog Friendly Holiday in a Cornwall Chalet
Don’t be shy of taking your dogs out and about round town with you - a surprising number of shops are dog friendly, likely as a result of the high numbers of holiday makers bringing their whole family to these picture perfect chalets for a well-deserved break.
It’s exactly the same story in major towns nearby too - Redruth is a very dog friendly place to go shopping for the day; and if you want to go further afield we found the same to be true of the historic and beautiful town of Penzance.
Looking for a destination trip for the day? The Cornish Seal Sanctuary welcomes dogs on leads, as does the famous Healey’s Cider Farm. In fact, with a little research into the lovingly placed tourist information pack contained within each of our Chalets, you’ll find somewhere welcoming for you and your dogs every day of your stay.
If actually going places isn’t for you, well there’s good news about the dog friendly status of most of the nearby beaches! It’s worth checking - and your Chalet will contain a handy map allowing you to do just that! - because some of the beaches do operate a seasonal ban from April to October. However, this ban only covers the daytime - you can still take your dogs early morning or late evening - and who doesn’t love the thought of an early morning walk with their dogs on a beach in Cornwall?!
You’ll find plenty to do and the time will fly past while you soak up the sun on the beach or back at your Chalet - and your faithful furry companions will love it too….just watch out for those local rabbits!!
The Perfect Gwithian Sands Chalet Holiday

Consider this tucked-away treasure on the beautiful North Cornwall coast. Picturesque beaches, unspoilt countryside and views that stretch for miles. Now imagine holidaying in your very own wooden beach chalet here, and let’s plan how you could spend that perfect time away! All our chalets are fully equipped so you wont even need to bring kitchenware.
Gwithian Sands is situated on the outskirts of the village of Gwithian, Hayle. Extensive sand dunes border the beautiful Gwithian Beach in West Cornwall. Located at the eastern end of St Ives Bay, between Hayle and Godrevy Point, three miles of golden sand beach make this an ideal spot for the family holiday.

Gwithian Sands is located next to the expansive, rolling grassy dunes of Gwithian and Upton Towans (a large site of special scientific interest, with abundant flowers, unusual plants and bird life - ideal for nature lovers), providing hours of safe play for children and beautiful and relaxing walks for adults.
A short walk, over the beautiful sand dunes, reaches the unspoilt beach at Gwithian, which is never crowded, even during the summer. The beach is excellent for bathing, while younger children can enjoy safe paddling in numerous rock pools. The beach is ideal for surfing, wind & kite surfing and bodyboarding. There are many local places of interest and the surrounding area is great for rambling.

This a very peaceful location and many people simply enjoy relaxing during the day, taking in the sun and allowing children (and adults!) to play on the Dunes. In the evening you can relax and unwind on your Chalet’s open plan decking and even dine Al Fresco. A home from home.
Gwithian, when the tide is low, is connected to other beaches that lead all the way to Hayle estuary. This three mile expanse is formed by Godrevy, Gwithian, Upton Towans, Mexico Towans and Hayle beach, which sits at the mouth of Hayle estuary.
Looking for a place to go with your dogs? Both the south-west section of Gwithian, Upton Towans and Mexico Towans allow dogs all year round — and the next beach over from Hayle beach, Porthkidney, is also dog friendly — so there’s plenty of space to let the dogs run.

Seasonal lifeguards serve the beaches here, so it’s a great place for those wanting to get in the water. You’ll find plenty of people in the water at most times of year, and although many will be surfers, there are plenty of windsurfers, kite-surfers and paddle-boarders about too, providing scenes of real adrenaline for onlookers on dry land.
Gwithian village itself is set back from the beach, hidden from view by the rolling Towans. This small hamlet is extremely pretty, and the local pub, the Red River Inn is a great place to grab a bite to eat and sample some local ales. For amenities and entertainment besides what can be found on the beach, head a few miles west of Gwithian to Hayle. This local town has plenty of supermarkets, restaurants and shops, while on the outskirts you will find some great farm shops.

Just a few miles further across the bay is St Ives. This beautiful town is a hive of activity during the summer, with local boutiques, restaurants and art galleries offering plenty to do all in a picturesque setting. For those looking to escape the crowds, a visit to St Ives out of season is a must. Its rich history of artists is commemorated by numerous museums and galleries, including the Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth museum. St Ives is a great place to explore for anyone visiting the area, and why not make a day of it by including a stroll or sunbathe on the towns’ two main beaches, Porthmeor and Porthminster.
With all the attractions, shopping opportunities, wildlife spotting and long sandy beaches it is no surprise that the Gwithian area is a popular spot for holidays.
Holidays in Hayle
Hayle, Cornwall is a picturesque old fishing town with charm, the finest beaches and easy access to all Cornwall has to offer.
Hayle surrounds a beautiful estuary on the edge of St Ives Bay in West Cornwall.
Archaeological excavations of Greek and Roman pottery suggest it was an important trading port for tin thousands of years ago, and during the industrial revolution copper smelting flourished in the town, the importance of which saw the town’s harbour and townscape being granted World Heritage Site status in 2006.
Hayle was the first town in Cornwall to be awarded "Walkers Are Welcome" status which means the footpaths and trails around the town are well maintained and well-marked. With plenty of rugged countryside around, it’s an ideal place to pull on your hiking boots and set off for your holiday hike.
To the west lie 3 miles of golden sands and, with a constant breeze off the Atlantic, the area is well-known for both its surfing and wind sailing. Hayle’s wide estuary, managed by the RSPB and the UK’s most south westerly, is an important stopping off point for migratory birds.
Top 10 things to do in Hayle
- Visit the Beaches
- Try an authentic Cornish Pasty
- Paradise Park
- Industrial heritage
- Waterside Cafes
- Birdwatching
- Surfing
- Feeding the ducks
- St Ives Train
- Climb Trencrom Hill
After years in decline since its heyday as a foundry town and port, Hayle seems to be well and truly on the up - thanks in no small part to the summer influx of tourism to the bustling little town. A brace of smart new cafes have opened along the harbour and visitors will always find plenty to do, see and eat.
Apart from the town's industrial heritage, Hayle boasts some fine natural assets such as miles of fine sandy beaches and an estuary teaming with birdlife. Both are within walking distance of the town which in itself has some great features if you know where to look.
Hayle town centre is unusual in that it is really only one street. However it is a very long street joining the historic Foundry district to the shops of the Copperhouse district and is packed with great little shops, boutiques and cafes to tempt the visitor.
But what can you actually do to pass the time in Hayle? Here’s our top 10 visitor tips for you.
- Visit the Beaches - Hayle has built its reputation as a resort town on its "3 miles of golden sand" and this is a pretty fair summary. At low tide there is an uninterrupted stretch of beautiful, fine sand reaching from the estuary mouth all the way to Godrevy Point in the north. The beaches closest to the estuary are referred to as the Towans, and despite being closest to town they have a wild feel with high windswept dunes and wide open space. Gwithian and Godrevy at the north are popular with surfers, and also great for kids with plenty of facilities and some super rock pools.
- Try an authentic Cornish Pasty - Hayle is one of the best towns in West Cornwall to get a pasty from. Not only is there the "Famous" Philp's bakery down by the harbour and the Foundry but there is the lesser known, but equally excellent, Hampsons. The bonus of choosing a Philp's pasty is you can sit in the car park and look out over the harbour whilst munching your pasty.
- Paradise Park - Paradise Park dates back to the 1970s when it was set up by former "Milky Bar Kid" Mike Reynolds. A large Victorian house set in extensive grounds, Reynolds thought it was the ideal place for a tropical bird garden. Initially called “Bird Paradise”, it has expanded much over the years to become one of Cornwall's top tourist attractions. Paradise Park now boasts a petting farm, small railway, an indoor play area and still maintains a fine collection of birds.
- Industrial heritage - however you enter Hayle it is hard not to be reminded that this was once an important industrial town. At one end the old iron works and the other the derelict bulk of Loggans Mill. Even the names of Hayle's two districts; Copperhouse and Foundry, reflect this heritage. Hayle's industrial credential date back over 2,000 years when it is said the Phoenicians came here to trade tin. In 2006, both the harbour and Foundry part of the town were awarded World Heritage status in recognition of their historic importance. It is well worth exploring the old Foundry and taking a walk along the recently spruced up quaysides.
- Waterside Cafes - over recent years Hayle has experienced something of a renaissance, and the Foundry end of town has been spruced up in admirable fashion. Also worth a visit is Mr B's Ice Cream Parlour, just up the road. There are more varieties of freshly made ice cream served than you ever knew existed!
- Birdwatching - Hayle is firmly on the twitcher's map with the Estuary and Copperhouse Creek RSPB reserves providing unique habitats. As the most southerly tidal estuary in Britain the water never freezes here and in the winter it becomes a haven for migrating wildfowl. Throughout the year any number of birds from the mundane to the exotic can be spotted here; Curlew, Little Egret, Oystercatchers, Widgeon and the occasional Osprey are just some of the birds to be found here.
- Surfing - As mentioned there are no shortages of beaches near Hayle. Not only do these beaches look nice they also provide some of the most consistent surfing conditions in Cornwall. On all but the calmest of summer's days there will be a surfable wave somewhere between Godrevy and Hawks Point across the river mouth. One of the great things about this stretch of coast is the waves get gradually bigger as you move along the beach. It also curves around so you can find some offshore if the wind is anywhere between easterly and south-westerly.
- Feeding the ducks - One of the nicest spots in Hayle is the old Millpond. It is hard to imagine that this peaceful pool was once part of a global centre of industry. In those days the pond was part of a water system which drove a mill used for grinding corn. This was in turn fed to an army of horses which transported the goods produced by the foundry over land or to the nearby harbour. These days the majority of activity in Hayle's millpond is due to the ducks! They are more than happy to receive a tasty treat from Philp's bakery next door.
- St Ives Train -There is a train station in Hayle itself; it's on the main Penzance to Paddington line. However, if it is a scenic ride that skirts some of the most picturesque coastal scenery anywhere in Cornwall that you are after then you'll need to head to Lelant Saltings station. From here you can take what has oft been described as the most scenic railway in Britain. The highlight of the St Ives Railway is as it hugs the cliffs above Carbis Bay beach and you get your first glimpse of the St Ives as you round Porthminster Point.
- Climb Trencrom Hill - At around 550 feet (175m) high Trencrom Hill is the highest point in the old district of Penwith. As you can imagine, the views from the top are pretty spectacular. To the south you look down over Mount's Bay and St Michael's Mount; to the east the view up the coast is stunning, with all of Hayle's beaches laid out in front of you and St Agnes Beacon looming in the distance. Owned by National Trust, Trencrom also has many signs of prehistoric settlement. Whilst these are not easy to discern, you can appreciate the weather worn rocks that help make this a very atmospheric spot.
